There are still seats available for this last Basic Pistol course for 2011.
I should have an assistant instructor available, so there should be plenty of one-on-one range-time for all students.
Please feel free to PM me or email me with any questions about the course.
I hope to see you...
:welcome:Welcome to INGO! Congrats on helping introduce your friend to firearms.
1. Gander Mountain is not a place to go to get good service, good information or good prices. My advice is to go to a local shop and get to know the guys that work there. You'll probably find that you get a lot...
+1
Before you buy one, I'd make sure you like them. I love all my 1911's but some folks don't. They are fairly large and if you don't have long enough fingers, it might be hard to reach all the controls. Also, being 100 years old, they are not as simple to maintain as many modern handguns...
I am not trying to start a religious debate but you said some inaccuracies that need to be corrected:
Actually Jesus did preach quite a bit about His second coming (IE: Matthew 24), which is the end of the world, aka the one and only Apocalypse. I don't think you can get any event more...
I was at a seminar and heard an Ohio Sheriff's Deputy tell a story where he was shot 4 times with an AR and was able to drop his attacker with his .40 S&W sidearm at 62 yards with the last round he had. After that he was out of ammo because he had no extra mag. He couldn't get into his truck...
Congrats for seeking out training.
It might be a drive for you but I am running an NRA Basic Pistol Course on Saturday November 12th at Marion County Fish and Game where I am the Safety Director.
You can read more about the course here and check out MCF&G's Training Page.
You can email me or...
Worst: Taurus 605 Stainless 2" revolver. Would lockup after 3 rounds of .357. Sent it back to the factory 3 times before they fixed it. I won't by another gun from Taurus ever again.
Best: Colt Anaconda in .45 Colt. It is by far the most pleasurable gun I've shot. The .45 Colt is a great...
Reminds me of a time my wife and I went to an indoor shooting range on the north side of Cincinnati. We had been there a few times and were pretty familiar with the place. They rent firearms there but we brought our own, as we usually did and paid for 1/2 hour.
As we were heading to our lane...
This is most likely true, at least in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
As stated earlier: If handled in a courteous but firm manner, this could be a teachable moment for at least this officer in particular and possibly the entire department if a complaint filed against him. I would say THAT would give...
Follow the link above and you can order the material. Also, they have a at least two different curriculum. One for pre-school and one for elementary school. After that, then regular firearms instruction could/should be taken for the pre-teen and teenagers. Good luck!!
That is definitely part of it. Ignorance of firearms definitely is a contributor to this. There have been instances of kids just finding a gun laying in an empty lot or parking lot and pick it up because they have never been taught what to do.
Unfortunately however, there are a lot of gun...
Thanks. Funny you should mention that. A buddy of mine told me once that his daughter who was in Kindergarten or 1st grade once told her teacher, "My daddy likes guns and beer." I'd love to have heard what was said at the next parent-teacher conference.
My Glock 26 is next since it is also...
I am not trying to insult or anything and this may not apply to you but lack of hand/upper-body strength could be at least a contributing factor. Increasing both might at least help.
Also, try a trick that I recently learned from a seminar by Col Dave Grossman that he said works to calm people...
Cool. Reason number 4,156,190 to own a 1911.
I wonder if, with a strong enough firing pin spring, a 1911 can be converted into a dart gun for the purpose of cat extermination without waking the neighbors.
Thanks for calling it a slide-stop and not a slide-release!!!!
Nope, I meant mag release. I am thinking that since this is what locks the mag into place, it could be worn out or damaged/modified and cause the mag to be misplaced and engage the slide-stop. Albeit, not likely.
You bring up a...
I have a daughter (5 years old) and a son (3 1/2) that I have been speaking to about what to do if they find a gun. I've used the Eddie Eagle program from the NRA and must say, it is really a great program. It simply teaches: "Stop, don't touch. Leave the area. Tell and adult."
Well, today...
I love the 1911. I hate the 92. But this is me.
I voted other. Although I love the 1911, it is not the simplest platform around and for a first gun it might not be the best choice. It is incredibly reliable and I love it but it might not be your cup-of-tea.
I hate the 92. I don't like...
You indicated that you were given several mags. Is it one mag in particular or all of them? Are they all the same manufacturer? It could be they are all junk mags. It could also be that the follower may be out-of-spec or had some Bubba-gunsmithing done to it and is bent so much that it...
