Since camp isn’t far from hunting, I gut and skin at camp. It doesn’t add more than 15-20 minutes, and is much easier to do it all from same spot, on a tripod with a pulley, in a barn. Once done, deer can age there and be boned out. One stop shopping.
Congrats to all that have a bird so far. It’s been a long slow day in the rain, but still beats being at work. Unless something happens in next hour or so, I’ll be back at it tomorrow!
If you’re in Evansville, you might stop by Booneville Bucks and Jakes. They’ve had a bl550 sitting on the shelf for years. They have got out of the Dillon business, minus conversions. A few years back, they sold me their demo 650, w stand and casefeeder, for what they had in the press itself...
Impressive! Especially without any optics. I’ve got a few groups pretty close to that, but I keep managing to have 1-2 flyers that screw it up. I’ll just keep trying. This exercise has mad me realize how far this trigger is from a nice rifle.
+1 on pricing it out without the Dillon accessories. Lee dies, lee scale, etc have served me very well for 9mm/223 on my 650.
If you want to go Dillon, the press, conversions, and case feeder are the only required blue equipment. Even stuff like the roller handle are nice but not need to have.
I’ve had an echo cs450p that’s served me very well for farm use. I’m not a timber guy, but I’ve put this saw to work with lots of firewood and clearing trails. I’d buy another echo in a second.
Assuming one is following the DNR rules for turkey hunting, I haven’t heard much debate on what constitutes poor sport. I believe if you’re following the published rules, you’re doing it right, even if it’s different than my approach. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.
After taking another look at this thread, especially my first picture, I now see where the concern comes from with regard to what’s beyond my targets. That upthread pic isn’t from shooters prospective. Here’s a different pic. Although not well demonstrated by either photo, from the shooters...
The pic may not reflect it, but the topography is pretty hilly. From shooters position, missed shots travel into gully, impacting ground maybe 30 feet down embankment. You’d have to make a solid effort to send an errant shot off the farm from this point. The shooters position is already uphill...
We just put in a steel range, 7 targets between 10-25y. I also just bought and am totally new to using a shot timer. I bought it so we can run contests and compete against each other, much like the steel matches my son and I have had so much fun with.
I would love to hear fun activities we can...
