I've seen this, and this is clearly a unique case.
That's like showing a single video of a 5'2" man with red hair beating his dog and concluding all 5'2" red headed men are thereby more likely to beat animals.
Included in your risk assessment you should consider the consequences of the officer discovering you're armed on his/her own. I would think that would escalate things to a much higher level than informing them. If a cop is going to be a jerk, he's probably going to ask you step out of the car...
I will say if I'm disarmed for no reason, I would have a problem with it. I would of course comply with the officer but if I felt their actions were inappropriate I would file a formal complaint.
I wanted to share this graphic reminder of why taking basic safety precautions is critical in our hobby/sport.
Don't worry, it's not gross. But if you're an AR lover, it might bring a tear to your eye.

Lets hear from you open carry guys.
How many of you have had your gun yanked from your holster by an over zealous cop in Indiana, had the serial number run, tossed on the ground or trunk, been drawn on by the cop, or been otherwise molested...
A guy I know put this video out that gives almost the exact same advice. A reader shared this link with me last night. Brannon has written for my blog (the guy in the video).

Assuming these horror stories are true, I would love to know the whole story.
I suspect there's a little something being left out.
I've interacted with a State Trooper while open carrying and his only comment was "why don't you cover your pistol up?" to which I replied "because by law I'm...
If I may ask, what town did these encounters happen in?
I've had less than pleasant encounters with Illinois police, but then I wasn't armed for obvious reasons so it wasn't an issue. Despite being respectful to them, they were rude and difficult to get along with. But that has been the...
I agree.
Some folks think every interaction has to be confrontational and they automatically cop a "f'em" attitude. I fail to see a reason to behave that way. The Valpo PD is courteous to me and has always been professional in my interactions with them.
Unlike some, I don't view the police as the enemy and I don't see every interaction with them as a test of my Constitutional rights.
If I'm pulled over for a traffic violation and I want things to go smoothly (and I do), I'll greet the officer as he walks up. When he asks for my ID, which is...
If you carry concealed, you may come into contact with police. The most likely scenario is a routine traffic stop.
How should you act if your goal is a low stress interaction? Matt, our resident 17 year veteran officer who has been on both sides of such encounters, offers some pointers.

We've all heard that saying before, but this recent news story sweeping the gun forms really drives that point home.
Check out this blog post and please share your thoughts here. I'm curious what everyone's take is on the event.
