      I know its a joke and probably junk calipers to start with. I've been in a QC / QA related roll most of my working life and I've seen idiots use calipers and micrometers used for every except what they were intended for.

      I'd go with a lever gun in either .357 or .44. Both work great on deer and can be loaded with light loads

      My oldest bought a nice M1A1 and built it up into a sniper rifle. It was a lot of fun to shoot and was expensive to feed. He had well over $2500 in it (pre Desert Storm) and ended up selling it at a loss

      When my son bought the gun and scope he knew about the missing mount screw. I checked zero with my bore sight and it was 2½ low at 100 yards.       First Precision Rifle

      While not what I would consider a precision rifle, years ago I had a heavy barrel NEF Handirifle in .308. While I would never consider this a long range precision rifle it would shoot ½" groups at 100 yards all day. It all boils down to what you want and what you are willing to pay for it.
