Has anyone done this class before? Recommendations pro or con? Preparation or equipment tips?
Required equipment says pistol ammo but no pistol is mentioned?
Very interested in the class just soliciting some input. Thanks.
If you are feeling adventurous and have money to burn what about the NEW FN Hi Power? Has anyone handled or shot one? They are out of my price range but they sure look cool.
Have to agree with the Heritage Rough Rider .22 pistol. Bought mine approx 15 years ago and still going strong after 3 kids used it for years of Cowboy Action shooting. I did have to replace a firing pin and it certainly isn't pretty but it runs like a champ. Paid $99 for it.
I am also interested in a defensive shotgun course. Didn't know about Indy Arms, I have been looking at Guardian Firearms Academy. Anyone have experience with them? Happy to hear about others too.
I am neither an expert nor a shoot organizer but based on my limited experience the targets they used should easily go down with a hit from a 20 Gauge. The targets were mostly hinged steel plates about hand sized. Easy to reset and made you aim to hit.
Out of stock currently, of course, but check out this link: https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-gear-gun-supplies/shotguns/beretta-1301-tactical-semi-auto-shotgun/p/p48718
No sling required. You need someway to carry extra shells, you will be forced to reload. The shell carry method is of your choosing. I saw guys using fancy 3 gun rigs, guys pulling from their pockets and everything in between. Shells on gun, off gun, etc.

Here is the description of the Boom Stick Challenge from June:
You are invited to the FIRST EVER ACC Boom Stick Challenge. This match will be 5 stages of ALL STEEL targets, shotgun-only . Poppers, Flippers, Plate Racks, etc. Minimum round count is 68. Bring 100 or more. ALL BIRDSHOT (#7.5 TO...
I have wanted one for awhile and with ACC putting on the Boom Stick Challenge somewhat regularly so I can play/practice with it I have discovered a burning "need" for a semi auto home defense style shotgun. My research has lead me to the following current top choices:
CZ 712 Utility - $500...
Don't get to wild with this but you can check on the National FFA Organization website here: https://www.ffa.org/chapter-locator/ to find an FFA Chapter in your area. The Agricultural Education teacher/FFA advisor is a great resource to potentially put you in touch with a local producer as...
I can't make it this month due to a prior commitment but I welcome this change and look forward to getting to shoot pins again. I really appreciate the .22 options as well! Great and flexible plan.
Very enjoyable match! Well run and very well set up!I very rarely get to run a shotgun (and it showed). My take always:
1. Love the reactive steel targets. Way more fun than punching paper and they were set up extremely well for ease of reset. Well planned by the stage designers.
2. Take...
Right before I saw this post, I posted information about the Danville Rifle and Pistol Club Tactical Shotgun Match happening this May 29th 5th Saturday. Here is the link: https://www.drpc-danville.com/tactical-shotgun/
I shot it last year and enjoyed it.
No matches to shoot on the upcoming 5th Saturday (May 29). Need to test or sharpen your home defense shotgun skills? Check out the Danville Rifle and Pistol Club "Tactical Shotgun Match" at https://www.drpc-danville.com/tactical-shotgun/ The webpage still says April 24 but it was cancelled...
Don, Thanks for confirming the procedures! It's been a year and I shoot multiple games at different ranges, just trying to keep straight which procedures to use where LOL.
Singlesix, I share your frustration about websites and updates. Thanks for your efforts to keep it up. I know it is lots...
I can't seem to get the rules link to work on the Marion County Fish and Game website, refresh my memory please. If shooting a long gun, it needs to be cased until on the firing line and told to "load and make ready". At the end of firing all strings the action is closed, gun pointed downrange...
I am sorry for what you went though! I hope sharing here with a supportive community helps you.
From my own experience it took me 15 years to learn, and I still struggle, but I finally decided that it takes time and energy to be angry and frustrated at people that wrong me. I have tried to...
