cant find a 1911 in the price range i want with the options i want. so i will build it the way i want. was thinking of buying a fitted frame and slide. but was wandering is it really necessary to if quality frames and slide of different manufacturers are bought. thanks for replys
I think it would be hit and miss, but you said quality manufactures so chances are the pieces will mate nicer than the cheap stuff.
Have you looked at Fusion Firearms kits?
The are a good value for high quality items.
I have done two of their kits and another one is on the way. I give their products my endorsement
I like them plus you can pay them to do as little or as much as you want/know how.
Also when you call them the president of the company answers the phone
You can always get as close as you can with a fully manufactured pistol and then upgrade the components. I.e Start with a SA Loaded 1911 and start changing out what you don't like.
My favorite 1911 (SA Loaded parkerized) is one that I bought from a forum member with only 32 rounds fired, and at a nice discount. I then made the following changes:
Hogue Wraparound Rubber Grips with Finger Grooves: (Manufacturer #: 563401)
Ed Brown Perfection Sear
Ed Brown Perfection Disconnector
Ed Brown Match Grade Commander-Style Lightweight Hardcore Hammer Blue
Cylinder & Slide - Reduced Weight Sear Spring: (Manufacturer #: CS094)
Wilson Combat Bullet Proof Extractor: (Manufacturer #: 110670)
Ed Brown Firing Pin Stop: (Manufacturer #: 517025)
Wolff 24lb. Main Spring
Polished Trigger Bow & Internals
3.75lb. Trigger Pull Modification
I will be Cerakoting the entire pistol once he weather becomes more agreeable to that garage activity.
Caspian & STI offer some custom fitting and so does Dawson Precision... I don't think they'll do it to the extent that Fusion will though. I've not purchased anything from Fusion so can't comment on their quality at all.
I'm building a couple handguns at the moment, I usually pay to have the ramps cut in the frames and do everything else.
