President Barack Obama’s deputies have quadrupled the number of signatures that petitioners on the administration’s “We the People” website must collect to get an official response from the White House, following a series of popular, provocative and disrespectful signature drives by his critics.

Some of the petitions sought approval for states to secede after Obama’s re-election, while others called on the White House to disavow executive orders that restrict gun rights, or to deport CNN’s British-born, progressive host Piers Morgan.

“Starting today, as we move into a second term, petitions must receive 100,000 signatures in 30 days in order to receive an official response from the Obama Administration,” said an early evening Jan. 15 statement from Macon Phillips, the White House’s digital strategy director.

This new threshold applies only to petitions created from this point forward and is not retroactively applied to ones that already exist.”

Phillips claimed the increased threshold is a response to the increasing popularity of the site. (RELATED: White House delivers official response to petition requesting construction of “Death Star”)

“That ‘good problem’ is only getting better, so we’re making another adjustment to ensure we’re able to continue to give the most popular ideas the time they deserve. … It’s wonderful to see so many people using We the People to add their voices to important policy debates here in Washington and bring attention to issues that might not get the attention they deserve.”

When the administration first established the petition system in September 2011, Obama’s aides promised that any petition with 5,000 signatures would receive a formal written response from White House officials. That threshold was raised to 25,000 for 2012.

The new 100,000-signature threshold follows a series of provocative, awkward or embarrassing petitions, some of which attracted enough signatures to meet the threshold set by Obama for getting a formal White House response.

We need a petition to lower the threshold back to 25,000. It's not fair to some petitions to have so many signatures. They need to be redistrubted or the bar lowered.

    And then one million.
    Then five million.
    Then one hundred million.
And pretty soon you don't have to listen to The People at all.

    Oh wait....................
He doesn't listen to us now.

    Never mind. :)

Or things could go back to the way it was before this "online petition" thing happened. That seemed to work for a good 200 years. :dunno:

They don't have to listen to The People now.

The Poll is a scam and has no bearing on the process of this Republic.

Numbers are the easiest form of data to corrupt!

I still don't get this whole petition the white house thing. I din't think we lived in a absolute democracy. I think it goves the appearance of too much power in centralized hands.

I was under the impression we lived in a democratic republic and if you wanted to petition then you petition your State government, and then the representitives and State legislature could handle the situation or ask remedy from the Federal if the Authority over the situation had been placed in Federal Domain.

I just dont get this "turn to the white house for everything" mentality.

It's an extension of the "Nanny State" conditioning that the Liberal/Democrats have been brainwashing Americans to do for decades.
People are trained to turn to the Government to solve their every little problem.
It makes me sick to see people begging for someone else to be their "protector."

Changing the rules in the middle of a fight shows me our opponent, the Nazi Socialist, are beginning to be a little scared of us.

...or that we're beset on all sides by idiots who want things like building a death star, which just makes legitimate claims that much harder. :xmad:

I remember a president who wanted to build a strategic defense system aka "Star Wars" which would of consisted of many global "death stars". He must of been an idot too?

Changing the rules in the middle of a fight shows me our opponent, the Nazi Socialist, are beginning to be a little scared of us.

Rules? Rules to what? a little web interface where they stated if X number of people sign a petition that someone started then someone from the administration would give a response. It was an experiment, at like most things of this nature, it requires tweaking.

And like most thing in life Dbags ruined it for the rest of us. Why is the bar now 100K? Because DBags beg the WH to have Piers Morgan deported. Why do we now face the spectre of gun control? Because Dbags shoot up schools.

Point the finger at the real source of the problem - social degenerates, not socialist*. And quick throwing around the word 'Nazi'.

    * There's plenty of other things to blame socialist for.
