I live off the paved road and 5.5 miles from the nearest gas station. So the fact that I have dsl at all is a blessing. I'm currently signed up for 1.5 mb. I got a subscription to Netflix and streaming is next to impossible. I stopped into the phone company and talked to the tech about upgrading. He said I'm only getting 6-800 b and can't upgrade until they run new fiber at $50k. I'm currently on 4.5 miles of line between me and the hub. I figured that it would be several years.
A few months ago, I saw people trenching by the house and emailed the tech. He said they were burying the line but would be awhile before they got the fiber cable. Well, it will be done in a few weeks and I'm trying to decide what I'm going to upgrade to. It's around $10 more a month for the 3mb and $20 more a month for the 5mb. The tech thinks 3mb should be sufficient. I'm thinking of going with the 5mb, partly to throw the phone company a bone for upgrading the lines.
The service from the phone company has been great. I can email the tech directly or talk to him personally if I can catch him in the office. The office is 2.5 miles from my house.
