Been trying to find anything semi auto in the AK platform that shoots 54r. Either an AK54R, PSL, VEPR, Etc.... for under $1000.

    Anyone have any sources?

    For under $1000?

do you have any more jokes? :D

If it has taken you X-months to save $1000... Then spend X-more months saving.

A PSL will probably be the least expensive. I have no idea what they're running these days, however.

Not on the AK platform but, you might find a Russian SVT-40 for around 1K. At least you'd have a semi-auto in 7.62x54r.

Yeah VEPR is the only game under $1000. Very good rifles, magazines aren't the easiest to find, but then again that's true for any 7.62x54 semi-auto.

If you can find a PSL, I highly recommend it. I bought mine a little over a year ago, and I love it! What a blast! And it's a great shooter. I've read they can be hit or miss on accuracy. Mine is a solid 2 MOA gun out to 500yds. A definite man killer, which is fine with me!

I've heard great things about the VEPR and the PSL. Honestly I'd rather own a PSL though.
I find VEPR's inherently hideous (minus the VEPR that atlantic currently has in stock). The basic run of the mill romy VEPR's are butt ugly IMO. If I can find a PSL, for a reasonable amount of $, Id jump on it, but people are askin wayyyy too much currently.

Century recently imported a large number of 1979 54C's but quickly sold and "over sold" there are guys right now getting notices that their order has canceled.
    pre-order PSL-54's - The AK Files Forums
There's also a TIGR for sale on there for 3000$
Your best bet in this platform is fish around, Even the VEPR 54R is sold out everywhere.

I ditched my PSL for a vepr for a good reason. They are uncomparable.
Just because it looks cool doesn't mean it's better lol. Keep in mind, most of them aren't the real deal, they're junk assembled from worn out parts kits.

Grab an NPZ manufactured PO-4x24 optic instead of a POSP, it is a vastly better piece of glass. You'll probably want to replace the mount on it, I suggest getting a standard AK base. It isn't hard to switch out the 6 screws and pin the base on. The furniture is very comfortable and I'd recommend against switching it out.

I picked up a new vepr 7.52x54r for $740. With optics it was just over $1000 total.

Just for the heck of it, if you are in the Indy area, contact Bradis. They can usually get a VEPR at a very good price.

I highly recommend getting a 54R VEPR. I love mine, and it's incredibly accurate even with mil-surplus ammo. The barrels are much heavier than the PSL and they also have RPK trunnions, thus allowing it to shoot heavier ammo. I've got a 4X32 POSP scope on mine, and this set of furniture on order from Iron Wood Designs:IWDVEPRSVD
^ Hopefully he gets it done soon, I feel like I've been waiting forever on it.
