My son and a friend went out with my Savage .17 and .22 both are bull barreled. They did well and you could see with out asking which ones were hit with the .17. Not the best choice if you intend to eat what you shoot.
I have been told that if you are using a .17HMR you have to do head shots, I didn't know that until I pulled the trigger.
Now I take my .410 for the close shots & keep the .17HMR for long range head shots. .410 & .17 is about the only squirrel loads you can still buy.
