Why a lighter if you don't smoke? I can only conceive of a few rare instances of needing a lighter.
In case something needs burnt? I dunno. Its just been handy. Light a candle, light the grill, melt the end of a frayed string, burn evidence (oops ). Even though I don't smoke, lighting up a stranger's cancer-stick can lead to an instant friendship.
I use the lighter WAY more than a spare magazine, but I lug that around too.
