is that like the Taurus PT92?

yes except the safety is on the frame instead of the slide.

I can relate on hating the M9/Berreta92, We use them in the Guard.
Never seen such a poorly designed weapon in my life, all of ours have cracks in the frame, slides and everywhere else they shouldn't.

    Give me a 1911a anytime.

I got a buddy who has a a Taurus PT92, that thing is a piece of junk. It shoots low to the left, no matter who shoots it. Ergonomics is horrible, grips is way too big, you literally have to aim at the stars to hit your target, and the gun been in to Taurus 3 times already and it's still all screwed up. If you like your PT92, I'm happy for you but based on his pistol, I'd rather buy a sling shot with steel balls.

Sold it. Rusted when it thought about water, very rough machining, sandpaper trigger pull, and the mags were like $50, 15 years ago! I only paid $300 for the gun. Otherwise, a great gun. 15 rounds and compact. Should have saved the money and bought a Sig...
