I don't know about "best" but certainly one of my favorites was Marshall Tucker Band at Pine Knob ski resort up in Michigan in 1979. Several of us had just found out that we wouldn't be coming back to General Motors Institute (partied too much and didn't make the grades), but before we had to leave, we all went to that show. It was a similar venue to Deer Creek / Ruoff Music Center.
A severe thunderstorm came through while they were playing. We were sitting on the lawn, on and under a big sheet of visqueen and at the height of the storm, with cloud to ground lighting all around, they played "Fire on the Mountain". The people that went used to give me a hard time about my "redneck" music tastes (Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Molly Hatchet, etc.) but I made a bunch of converts at that show!
