I don't know about "best" but certainly one of my favorites was Marshall Tucker Band at Pine Knob ski resort up in Michigan in 1979. Several of us had just found out that we wouldn't be coming back to General Motors Institute (partied too much and didn't make the grades), but before we had to leave, we all went to that show. It was a similar venue to Deer Creek / Ruoff Music Center.

A severe thunderstorm came through while they were playing. We were sitting on the lawn, on and under a big sheet of visqueen and at the height of the storm, with cloud to ground lighting all around, they played "Fire on the Mountain". The people that went used to give me a hard time about my "redneck" music tastes (Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Molly Hatchet, etc.) but I made a bunch of converts at that show!

Was Max Webster with them on this one? If so, I saw the same tour at Market Square Arena. Geddy Lee came out with Max Webster wearing a Nixon mask to sing along on "Battle Scar". :rockwoot:

A man after my own tastes.
The Kansas show we saw made me a lifelong convert. I was into yes/sabath etc and once I saw them live, I was hooked.
We saw Van Halen but that was not a good night for me, so the music was wasted.
I saw Kansas on their Leftoverture tour and they were awesome.

I'm going with my first real concert. My Uncle was going to be home on leave and called and said if I wanted to go I had better stand in line and get us tickets.
It was a good show...I think ... Pretty sure I had a good time because some of it is kinda fuzzy.20220221_164422_HDR.jpg

    A holler in Kentucky
I saw the Allman Betts band shortly before the scamdemic broke out. It’s the children of Gregg Allman, Dickie betts, and Berry Oakley. We saw them in a 400 seat theater in Frankfort Kentucky, and they blew the roof off the place! They did 90% their own original songs, but did a few ABB classics. They did an amazing version of “in memory of Elizabeth Reed”. Even got to hang out with the guys for about 20 minutes after the show, very nice bunch of people. Had a great conversation with Devon Allman about a Gibson Flying V that was his dads.

    Outlaws/Golden Earring/Lynyrd Skynyrd

Golden Earring was opening for Skynyrd and I was very much a Skynyrd fan. I was expecting to just have to sit through the GE set to get to what I came for, but GE f***ing ROCKED THE HOUSE - so much so that I was thinking Skynyrd might have their work cut out for them. Then Skynyrd came on and absolutely brought down the house. To this day, I've seen a lot of shows but nothing topped the energy of that one

BTW, Billy Powell was underrated as an acoustic piano player

    Hmmm, thats tough, seen alot.

KISS and Def Leppard, my two favorite bands toured together a few years back. Got to go backstage and meet Def Leppard. Row 2 in the center. Amazing show.

Best show though, probably has to go to Garth Brooks. While I have seen him multiple times he played in Notre Dame around 94. Back then he was probably bigger than anyone at that time. The show was amazing.

I have seen a lot of bands over the years, Ted Nugent, AC/DC, The Who, Van Halen, etc... but the best show I have ever seen was a band that I didn't even like at the time. Somebody had an extra ticket to Supertramp. Yes, Supertramp. Freaking awesome show by amazing musicians, just blew me away. I don't think I had ever heard the song School before that, been a favorite ever since.

Next one that comes to mind is Foreigner with Billy Squier as an opening act.

Cheap Trick at the Vogue was pretty awesome too.

We saw Garth Brooks a couple of years ago at Rupp arena, my wife wanted to go, I didn’t. I never really “got” the whole Garth thing. The second that guy hit the stage, I totally “got” it! I’ve never seen an entertainer that had the ability to connect with everybody in the audience the way he does. It was a great show and I’d definitely go see him again.

Fall of 2019 in Springfield Illinois I saw Joe Bonamassa, fantastic. No warm-up band he just came out and played for two straight hours. Jim.
