I'm going to go with (on the low probability that an Indian stripped squirrel is running around Indiana) piebald squirrel coupled with a low-res camera and some lighting/camera artifacts. Discoloration such as piebald is relatively common, but to have that discoloration manifest in straight lines is highly unusual I'd say. So, my best guess is piebald and low res camera with odd lighting.

I'm with you Spencer Rifle about thinking it could be recovering from mange. I enjoy hunting squirrel dogs so have seen a lot of squirrels over years and have treed a few similar to this one. The ones I saw had more black hair filled back in across the back though. The hair was very short and appeared to be just coming back in. I certainly don't know for sure the cause but always thought it was from type of mange or from severe flea infestation.

any chance that it was in the fringe area where you trail cam was switching to Infra Red, and it's some color distortions created by being at dusk or dawn and you actually getting a infrared picture? and the fur has some rubbing or contamination that would cause the stripe?

No nuclear plants. I will not be hunting this squirrel. My friend who got this pic on his cam said he will. No idea what his plans are with it. I'm sure he will mount it however.
