Hornady Critcal Defense in my 1911, Winchester PDX1s in the 9mm. I also have a mag left of Hornadys for the 9mm. I'm not completly satisfied with the CDs though, as the tip pretty thin towards the tip and the petals can/will bend will chambering a round, deforming the tip of the bullet.

For plinking its usually reloads from B&K. .45 is expensive enough as it is.

Anything by Hornaday is good. Federal, Winchester and Remington is good too.

It's best to stick with known brands like them. Don't get into anything real fancy.
And most important, buy a little bit of each, and shoot them. Find out which ammo your gun likes the best.

I know you've said you carry a G19(not sure which Gen, but I think 3)...Has your G19 met a brand that it doesn't like? I'm just curious, because mine hasn't.

Nope, and neither has my M&P9c. But I believe it's always best to experiment on different brands of ammo before you pick a brand to defend your life with.

    No question about that!

With that being said, I change out my SD ammo regularly and all of the old rounds get sent to the range...I've never had a hiccup with Fedral Hydra-shok(9mm or .45ACP), so I figure that's good enough for me to carry it.

In other words, I haven't "experimented" with too many different SD brands because I haven't had any problems with Federal.

    My .30-30 likes about anything.
I use Winchester 180 gr. bonded JHP in my XD40 which I carry, and I use BVAC 255 gr. in my Uberti Colt clone.

I also prefer Office Depot rubber bands for flipping at people at work.

My dad doesn't carry but he uses .357 semi jacketed hollow points in his home defense gun. Ruger 357 snub nose.
