Hookeye, I'm still shooting my SBXT from '05. Killed a doe opening day. Spot on accuracy and hard hitting heavy aluminum arrows still doing the job fletched with 5" feathers. Still don't see why I should "trade up".
On the heavy angled broadheads - like the G5 - I agree. Even though, like good well sharpened chisels, they are "sharp", I just wasn't getting the blood trails I wanted even though the shots were on. So, that's why the switch to RamCats - scary sharp cutting both ways - don't like mechs so the idea of a fixed blade with scary sharp blades cutting both ways AND a chisel point to make bone crushing entries if necessary was to my liking. I've since taken dozens of big game animals with them and like them very much (as is evidenced by my becoming a prostaff shooter for RamCat just this fall). Again lots of great broadheads out there.
Still running the Magnus Stinger 125gr w bleeders.
Blackwidow HF1225 spitting (more like drooling) GT35/55.
Might get another old metal Widow. Dunno.
I need a Leupold 4X for my 10/22 sporter and ball joints on the Jeep. A second boat anchor is not a priority
Coworker picked up a Screaming Eagle for $10 at an auction. Has new cables and string like new (covered in dust). Looking at lower limb I recognized an almost wiped out sticker................
The Hole in the Wall (bow was either bought or tuned sometime at that shop). Been a long time..............wonder if I knew the orig owner?
Gonna check tune (cleaned it up at 3 am). Scratched paint but alignment and components look to be in fresh shape. My guess is that it got rebuilt and then shelved.
Heck of a deal for $10.
Of course it's a "long" so I won't be offering $20
I bow hunt with a Mathews HELIUM, pro-hunter 350's and 100 grain slick tricks
Gun hunt with Marlin 44 magnum and Hornaday rounds
Muzzle Loader with Thompson Encore, and 300 grain TC sabots, pushed with 100 grains of 777
I like the idea of this thread, I like seeing what other people use!
I stay fairly constant most of the time, with some guns changing between seasons for deer or types of birds.
Deer:
Bow I shoot a PSE. I also don't run buy the "new latest and greatest every year"
Shotgun Remington 11-87 (always have for shotgun) now I run 300blk though usually.
Muzzle loader Thompson Center Bone Collector
Handgun 300blk
Birds: Waterfowl, turkey, doves, quail, pheasent
Shotgun Benelli Super Black Eagle 2
Ruger Red Label (rarely for doves or some small birds instead of sbe2)
I have changed a bunch of stuff over the yrs, but am back to pretty much what I started with.
Could shoot more expensive stuff, but am content to run with what simply works.
Looks like Armalite makes a good hunting pistol. Probably a higher velocity than the 300 blackout. Best part is you can always turn it into a rifle if you want longer range. https://armalite.com/shop/ar-10-pistol/
Bow is a PSE firestorm set at 70#, shooting Axis carbons. Shotgun is Remington 1100 with rifled barrel open sights. Muzzle loader is a Thompson center black diamond shooting 90 grns of pyrodex with hornaday xtp 240 grn.
Well it looks like a couple of different varmint rigs for after deer season...
Have the .223 AR and .243 700 always ready.
But think I might try the Ruger #1 RSI in .243 for a couple of yote hunts.
If we locate some fox then a TCR in .22 Hornet.
