There's only one sig that I consistently think is too big.....but I won't say who.

I'm kinda torn here. I totally get what Mike is saying, but at the same time, I really like the signatures, they give you an idea about who you're talking with.
I have no problem with most pictures in sig lines. Banners (be it military or a custom user made ones), flags, Mosin Devotion (first one that came to my mind), and things of that nature are no big deal at all to me. It's when you start putting in pictures of your pet dog, your unicycle, and your favorite easy chair that I start to get a little annoyed.
I would limit them to a total of one image, and yeah, set some (not too restrictive) size guidelines. As far as text goes, have a witty signature, and a quote (with [] tags) from a forum member if you want. If you're quoting someone though, just drop the size down.
This is something I'll think a bit more on, but these are my initial thoughts at least.
Some of the signatures around here are massive and distracting. I'd like to get some rules in place to keep the board a bit more uniform and avoid signatures that are longer than posts.
Post your comments and suggestions on a new policy here.
As I said before, I think as long as it doesn't get any bigger than the sidebar already makes a post, then that should be fine. What is the point of making a tiny sig, if the sidebar makes your post still the same size?

Ahem.I say limit it to a height in pixels, if it's text or pix, you have a total # of pixels tall allowed.
I think it should be treated just like the custom user titles. Everyone can have a one line sig. If you want more then become a site supporter and receive up to 3 lines and a small pic. Small as in the vet pic in IndyGunWorks or BillofRights INGO logo in their respective signatures.
FYI we will have a new sig policy in place soon and it will be close to what cwood has suggested.
1 line sig (no images or links) only text for registered members
Site Supporters will be able to post images and links

I think it's fine, but a change shouldn't kill anyone
