I have 800.00 and looking for input to get the best bang for my bucks. Any advice would be appreciated. This will be my first 1911. I know inventory sucks everywhere right now, where would be the best place to start my search?

I would suggest as an entry level pistol, look at a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911. Great gun, needs better sights though.

The one cool thing about 1911's is that you can add what you need and leave out what you don't need. I think the Springfield will be under your $800.00 mark, and they're quality.

I have a Ruger SR1911 and just love it. It will run just about that. This is my first 1911, so I am sure there are others that can give alot more info.

I am a broken record on this subject...Springfield. A Mil-Spec, Range officer or a loaded. You can not do any better for your budget figure.
S&W has some nice pieces in that price range but for fit/finish/trigger and accuracy the SA is my choice. JMHO

Ruger makes a nice piece in the SR.

    Edit.... Oops, forgot Remington

At the $800 and under mark, Ruger SR1911, Remington R1 standard or Springfield Mil-Spec, in that order.

If you can scrape together a little more money, you're in the realm of a Springfield Loaded or Remington R1 Enhanced.

Really liking my RIA Tactical. I got the 9mm variant and in about a month I plan on picking up the matching .45 . With $800 you could almost get both.
I've put about 500 rounds through mine and love it. Nice trigger, frame to slide fit is great, not a single issue so far, its ate everything I've fed it.

I feel better knowing that an actual gun guy agrees with me. I would like to start accumulating some different 1911's when the craziness subsides.

I agree with "Red" ... I have RIA Tactical in 45. Not a single issue. Solid. Price was attractive ($450). Shoots any brand of ammo I have out in it and nearly 1000 has been shot. (I do have one Kimber mag that has a feed issue periodically, but the other 7 mags are no issue.)

Go with the RIA and you will have some cash left for ammo ... and you will need that! Fun to shoot!

    Citadel for an entry level.

For a little more, some Springfields, the Remington, and maybe a Kimber Custom II if you can find one. Para Ordnance is putting out some fairly nice 1911s lately too.

Don't buy a Ruger, I've yet to see one where the barrel was fitted right to the slide, where the bushing was fitted right to the barrel, where the firing pin hit center of the primer (small link pin), etc.

To be honest, I've picked up WWII Colts and a WWII Ithaca that went through hell and back, that didn't shake and rattle like a Ruger.

I just baught a SR1911 3 weeks ago for $730 at Top Guns in Terre Haute, and stopped in today, and they are selling for 650. This is a great gun, especially for 6 fitty

I second the SPFD mil-spec if you can find a reasonable one. I bought a SS one less than 3 years ago for 550.00 saw one the other day at Big Daddy's for over 850.00. They went up 100.00 per year, I don't think so. For that kind of money just get a Colt.

Springfield makes an excellent 1911, and I know a basic Colt is a little over your price threshold, but I would have a hard time walking away from a good deal on one. Colt's seem to hold their value more than any other 1911.
