Just saw him being questioned about it on tv this morning. When asked why he wouldn't allow the aid into his country when the people so clearly need it, he said, "Because it is a poisonous gift."
Need an LOL this morning?

Looks like this weekend could be the next big standoff. Guaido and the US have a convoy of aid ready to be delivered. Maduro is shutting down borders and calling it an invasion.
(Wonder where he got the idea for that.)
(Well, maybe it is in this case.)

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
The fact that a nation has the right to control its borders is so mind-numbingly self evident that I sometimes wonder about the sanity of those who say otherwise.

Indeed, it almost seems like a fallacy to say that people of any authority want open borders.

The issue becomes murky when the lawful representative of the county is in question. The United States and over 50 countries (including most Latin American and European) do not recognize Maduro as the lawful leader. If he is in power illegally then his authority to control the border is also illegal.
By the same token if Guaido is the lawfully elected leader and he does want to open the border, is it not his lawful decision?
I'm not saying either side is completely right or wrong, but the idea of control is based on the unspoken "lawful" control. This then undermines Maduro's ability to control the border of a nation to which he may not have lawful control. The fact that Venezuela appears to be in the beginnings of a so far mostly bloodless civil war muddies the waters.

Doug
Guaido has not been elected. When Maduro's election was ruled invalid, Guaido was the designated acting head of government from that point on but with a mandate to hold untainted elections ASAP

He's not. He was just next in line of succession after Maduro was ruled invalid
Are we sending them more Flamingos?
I hear they ran out.
