I attended the Pistol Craft course at Valor Ridge (in TN) on the dates noted above. Besides NRA classes, this was my first class that involved more than standing and shooting. Was I a bit nervous? YES. How was my experience at Valor Ridge with Reid Henrichs? Empowering.

    What you will learn:
    - The four gun handling rules
    - Fundamentals:
    o Proper draw
    o front side focus
o Trigger control / follow through
    - Marksmanship "treat each shot as if your last"
    - Stance and movement
    - skills / techniques to survive an encounter where you needed to draw your weapon
    In a POSITIVE environment.

The course employs, in my opinion, the KISS philosophy (Keep It Simple). I had seen stuff on YouTube that I questioned (administrative press checks as an example). Valor Ridge for very logical (KISS) reasons has a better approach. Attend the class and you will know what I mean.

Over the two days you will grow quickly in your confidence to put rounds on target. The mix of classroom and range time is well balanced. Many thought provoking topics will be raised.

On a personal level, I had doubts about deploying my weapon for fear of making a situation worse. Since getting my concealed carry permit, this is the first time that I feel sufficiently trained. The NRA classes were not adequate for me.

I recommend this class to anyone that, like me, needs that additional confidence achieved by training with a positive, top trainer.

Do not hesitate to seek out Reid Henrichs at Valor Ridge. It will be a positive experience.

Great first post and seems like you had a great positive experience.
There are a several great instructors right here in Indiana (ACT & BFT spring to mind).
Kudos to taking the first step and I hope to meet you in a class someday.

It's great you're out getting training! The NRA classes get flak for being inadequate, but to be fair they are good first steps. Viewing them as inadequate lends itself to viewing training as a 1 time event rather than an ongoing experience. Thanks for posting your AAR and another training source

Glad to see a positive review of Reid's new venture. I met him a couple of years ago at a course and he seems like a good guy. I wish him the best.

This is Reid from Tactical Response? I wonder how similar the course is to TR.

Same guy yes. Can't say as I have not taken either class. My impression of Reid is that he is a thinking man, so I would imagine he would incorporate the material he feels is most pertinent.
