    Spoilers:
Utah law requires vehicle to give bicyclists 3’ clearance when passing.

Utah law also allows citizens to detain others when misdemeanor observed.

Passing too close is a traffic infraction, not a misdemeanor.

Cops cited kid for passing too close infraction ($130). Gave old man disorderly conduct infraction ($160). Old man paid his.

Kid is fighting his in court with dashcam that shows he moved left and slowed from 29 to 25 mph when he passed old man.

Kid was smart to have dash cam and to video interaction with old man. Would have been even smarter to call the cops himself.

Kid seemed calmer than I was just watching the vid. I think he would have been justified to use some force in self defense.

I think the old man committed assault, maybe unlawful confinement, and was guilty of what he was accusing the kid of (obnoxious and aggressive). He probably qualified to be shot under Texas law. Unlawfully entering with force an occupied vehicle is same as breaking in house. He shouldn’t get away with justan infraction.

Telling quote from old man: “I’m a cyclist. I have more rights than you.”

    Old man’s name is Peacock.
