We just loaded up on crown royal and ice, mag'd up everything we owned at the time and went for broke. 12:01 came and went and by 12:30 we were disappointed as everything still worked. Finished the crown off and went to bed.

Spent the evening at the emergency management center in Frankfort Ky.
Had a Television truck with four cameras ready to go live to the entire state of KY when poo hit the fan.
Drove home around 4am, not a soul on the roads.

Interesting how if everything was going to shut down ie. power grids, computers etc how you were going to broadcast, curious.

WE were in full anticipation of the flying poo hitting the rotating oscillator. No poo...................

It's funny.....I was twenty something and work for a newspaper and was sent out to take photos of people emptying the store shelves and just laughed about it. I was not prepared then at all! It's funny how life changes you in 12 years and even more so when you have a family of your own to protect!

My signal was to go out on Kentucky's KEWS system.
Battery backed microwave relays throughout the state.
Them delivered to fifteen generator backed transmitters.

I also had a satellite path out if I needed it.

Figured you guys had something. Just curious what. Next thing was who could watch this broadcast once you guys did your jobs. Might be a few preppers with gennys.

I've still got the shotgun I bought. We spent the evening in the Marion County EMA EOC; went home shortly before 0200, when it was evident all would be well.

You have to remember, elec. wasn't the only concern.

I know a lot of people like to make fun of the Y2K hype...the fact is, the concerns, at their root, were legit. The thing is, the concerns were, with very few exceptions, addressed before they could become a problem. I witnessed (and corrected) a Y2K-related failure in a production system in '98.

Although I was pretty confident that the private sector had its ducks in a row, I didn't trust the gov't to have been as diligent (I know, that is so unlike me).

Ask anybody who knows COBOL....the late '90s were good years

EDIT: BTW....still have a Coleman dual fuel camp stove that I bought in '99 "just in case"...still have it for that very reason...if nothing else, Y2K served as a good wake up for some (myself included) that the systems we tend to rely upon daily are not so bulletproof as many would like us to believe...Y2K awoke the prepper within.

Still have the AR7 and P95DC and PC9 I got then. We had a lot of backpacking and camping stuff anyway. Got some extra fuel the month before, and made sure I knew where the freeze-dried food was, since we used it so rarely. Filled the bathtubs.
