So I go to my local Workone office to inquire on some training/school options and am surprised to see when I get to the front desk an armed security guard(older female). Is the economy that bad? :dunno: Jeez. Oh yeah, looked like a Glock just in case you were wondering.

Some people are really getting desperate, and the sad thing is if they take out their frustrations on the people at the unemployment office, they are taking it out on the wrong people.

Saw that in the news in September I think. 60 unemployment offices in Indiana were supposed to have armed guards starting in November, I believe.

I remember used to seeing a sign saying no weapons but don't recall seeing it the past few times I've been there. I pretty much conceal carry everywhere I go and today was no exception.

What is the legality of carrying at the unemployment office?

Seems like it would be state owned property. As such, wouldn't there have to be a state law in order to make it illegal?

I believe Work One isn't state owned, I am thinking its a privatized corporation. They do have signs up, so if caught, you will most likely be asked to leave. When I was using the center trying to appeal my unemployment and look for a job a few months back, I knew the guard in anderson. He was already carrying(july/aug) and he knew I usually was as well. Didn't seem to mind;)

Edit: But as this streak drags on, and the govt keeps extending benifits, when they get cut off, there will prolly be a bunch of beyond ticked off people who lost their meal ticket. Basically work one is gearing up for this eventuality

This is sad but true. One thing to be said is I thought I was gonna choke the hell out of a worker a while back as they were about as helpful as any government agency can be. Also, there are a few that will give you misinformation on a job so that they can pass the real info along to a friend or family member:xmad:

Yep, guess that's what it's come to- saw one in the Richmond office last week, looked like a pretty lo-rent outfit, kinda looked to be more suited for trick-or-treating than being a hired gun. Looked like some kind of Taurus on his hip- couldn't really tell due to the cheap nylon holster, with the extra magazine velcro'd to the front.
Funny thing is, if you get there when they open- you'll have the place all to yourself. The lady who helped me said they don't get busy untill around noon, when everybody starts getting up..... I told her that it must be nice.

What a riot! I remember my short stint before I did online filing: The place was EXACTLY as you mentioned it: Most of the folks did their calling and argueing with the folks at the counter for MORE money until the afternoon.

I was up at 5 AM sending emails, making calls at 9AM (gave the HR folks about an hour to get coffee and their computers on), stopped physical contact/calling at 5PM and didn't stop emailing until 8PM. The laziness of some of the people at the unemployment office was astounding, but also the anger! They would threaten physical violence if they did not get their check that week (or right then for that matter), they would push and shove each other to get at a computer (which was promptly logged into Facebook or similar (the office I went to I guess didn't have the blocking software other offices do).

People would use it as a public forum for gathering, just to hang out. I went there in a suit once, fresh from an interview to ask some questions about ending payments, I had literally 30 people coming up, trying to shove resumes at me, one even in my face as 6 folks crowded up at once on me trying to talk to me, thinking I was a recruiter or something. A firearm would have been VERY helpful, a few rounds in the air to scare the cockroaches off. Disgusting, but coincides with what John Galt said earlier: Look at the riots over joblessness in Europe. We just have not had the hunger issues yet, nor a major enough disruption in government aid. Cut EVERYONE off due to lack of funds, you would need 10th Mountain to even get into the door...

Their desparation, coupled with laziness, is amazing. Many of these people complain they didn't get a high paying job, but yet have no experience. One person said that she deserved a job because she went a certain church regularly. People can't seem to find fault in their joblessness in their ownselves. I blamed myself for my lack of experience at the time, I blamed myself and took accountability for my actions. These roaches cannot, and that can be a dangerous powder keg to light off: People willing to fight even kill you over something they have not worked for or deserve.

Hmmm... sounds like this thread is drifting into the survival and preparedness area..... :)
And John Gault... who is John Gualt? Did anyone see those bumper stickers at the gun shows? I'm not at all a bumper sticker kind of guy, but I bought two just for the heck of it! Excellent handle, dude! Reps incoming! Does anyone else see the irony of him posting in this thread?

In Anderson It is posted on all doors and the two posts outside. No guns knives or weapons permited and violaters will be charged.

Charged with what? :dunno: Treaspassing? One is not breaking any Indiana Law by going into the unemployment office with a gun. If you have an LTCH.

Not any time soon. Congress has extended the unemployment bebefits for 1 more year. So those 99ers (people on 99 weeks of unemployment benefits can sooon be called 151sters! 151 weeks of unemployment. :faint:
