Well, who needs that outdated gibberish anyway? We've got nothing to worry about...the government will take care of us and life will be great!!!

Hasn't this been addressed in another lengthy thread? I was under the impression from that discussion that the amendment would do 'no such thing'.

So who voted fer it anyway? And Obama claims he'll veto...maybe.

I learned a lot reading that article. I'm reeling.

    I learned:

    1. Congress can pass a law that amends the Constitution.
    2. A law's meaning, which is under debate among legal scholars can repeal ten Amendments.

What I didn't learn from reading that article:
    1. What the law actually said, the reason for passing it, and any arguments for it's legitimacy.

Now for those of you who claim that Bush and Obama are the same, ask yourself if Roberts, Alito, Scalia, and Thomas are the same as Ginsberg, Breyer, and that other chick.

I suspect the number of bills passed in either the House or the Senate which contain laws antithetical to the Constitution are legion. I also note that this bill, while being passed by the Senate, hasn't to my knowledge, been either introduced in or passed by the House, so absent that passage, it's just another political statement that will fade away at the end of the session. Is it heinous? Absolutely. But it's largely meaningless, except as an indication of how screwed up the Senate is, until it's been passed by the House and signed into law by the President.

Here is the beginning of the thread. https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...itizens_will_be_sent_to_military_prisons.html

Same thread with some additional information on a last minute amendment to Sec.1031. Apparently the question is still up for debate on whether it will apply to U.S. citizens on U.S. soil.

dross, you're better than that. You know very well they are all the same. That is why all cases are decided 9-0. Let me say again, you're better than that.

Oh did I mention you're better than that?

Yes, this drives me nuts about 'advocacy' groups. They rarely give a reasoned argument, but just try to stir up the peasants to get the pitchforks and torches, and storm the castle.

Environmental groups, e.g. Greenpeace, are excellent at doing this, which is why many people distrust them. ("many people" = me, for one) Other advocacy groups aren't far behind...

Anytime a group wants us to get motivated to do something, at least they ought to print/link the bill/rule and any legislative history available.

Dross, what you said here is the most important reason to keep a liberal socialist of any kind from becoming president the next go around and to vote for the lesser of two evils sometimes.

Never fall for all the hysterics. You'll always get the crowd that shouts "I'm freaked out and you should be too!!"

I approach any issue with an open mind and a level head and I do my own research and come to my own conclusions. Often times I find out that there is more to the story or there are different interpretations on what is actually going on other than what someone originally tries to portray in their attempt to get you to see things their way. More often than not I find there are inconsistencies or things being intentionally left out of what someone else writes or posts just to fit their own narrative.

When I come across something to the contrary I will usually post it so other people can get the additional information and make up their own minds.

Moral of the story: Don't give in to all the hysterics and rhetoric and never take anybody's word for anything. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions and always use more than one source.

Would you people chill the F!#@ out! Geez.

It passed the the Senate. Yuppee! It will never get through the House. Even if it did even Obama wouldn't sign it right now. Plus even the Supreme Court would lock it away forever. Its just the Dems bloviating and show yet again just what they think of the American populace and why they all need to be shot.

It passed the House in May 2011.

Obama has no problem with stomping civil liberties and has flip-flopped on dozens of promises.

The Supreme Court loves Police State legislation.
