The opposite is also true. When you have newly elected individuals that act like a major political change is as simple as flipping a switch. No matter how good the intent of the person, when stock markets crash and basic utilities are disrupted it will be hard to try and convince the population to "just hold on and there will be light at the end of the tunnel..."
We can all cross our fingers and hope that everything else around us continues to operate at least as well as it is, but I would advise to plan for the worst.

Cows are not that bright but even they can be stampeded...

You know what gets under my skin when these conversations start (not saying anything about you Actaeon, your comment just made me think of it and I happen to have time to comment right now...) is when people start with the the "civil unrest" or "government collapse/SHTF" talk is that people act as if should the Feds lose control, it will instantly be no holds barred anarchy, which seems silly to me.

Government in the United States is like an onion. It has so many layers that if Uncle Sam goes full sclerotic on us, we still have a state governor, state legislature, courts, mayors, county councils, sheriffs, etc. We will not go from a micro-managed US of A to THUNDERDOME overnight! (short of a continental EMP, alien invasion, asteroid strike in the Gulf of Mexico or the like...)

It would be like 1800 again, only with toilets and ARs. Hopefully at least with toilets...

Each war that starts, is supposed to be "over by Christmas".
    Well, civil wars are nasty.
Unless you can convince people your side is the right side, it will drag out and drag out, getting nastier as it goes.

And, look at the civil war here.
No, it wasn't like flipping a switch and instant anarchy.
But it tore at the very fabric of the country. Homes and businesses lost. A buttload of deaths. Animosity that continues to this day.
And they could be divided by area, mostly.
This type of war would be even worse.

It would be more like the beginning of the american revolution. I HOPE and believe that those under Oath would not follow the government gone wild.

****, a drop of common sense in an ocean of stupidity!
Swalwell suggested a buyback or a complete ban.
Stupid idea since he wants to apply it to law abiding gun owners. As if it would change anything to criminality...

Then some knuckle heads get their panties in a bunch and say it would mean war.

To what, this asshat escalated with an hyperbolic statement indeed.

Then said knuckle heads now think a Democrat wants to nuke all gun owners.

Jeez guys, you seriously can’t be THAT dense?

You don't think a complete ban would cause some reaction.
The proposal right now is ALL SEMI-AUTO rifles.
What percentage would that be of all rifles?
Not sure, but I'm betting it's above 90 percent. Maybe it's only above 80 percent.
But, mostly a defacto ban on rifles.

Then, does anyone really think we're done there?
I mean, how many gun laws do we already have?
I figure the next step, will either be "sniper rifles" which will cover all the rifles not covered by the semi-auto ban. Or it will be pistols that use magazines.

Start sending police to everyone's house, there's going to be an "incident". A gun owner gets shot. Or an officer gets shot. Or a bystander or family that someone went to the wrong address.
Then both sides will ramp up their "nervousness".
Which can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, causing another "incident".

As was mentioned above, it won't be an instant change.
But its going to be like sliding your car through an intersection on ice once it starts.

There are a lot of really low post count guys on INGO right now we do not want to scare them off. That is not directed at anyone that has posted in this thread recently.

    Just sayin'.

    Yup.

Once there is an incident it won't take long for other aggrieved parties (or other persons "feeling" aggrieved) to start pushing the Overton window o' conduct wider than it's been in a while, at least here in North America.

Another consideration is that while we fight amongst ourselves; there are more barbarians than ever, and in the 21st century world they're camped right outside the gates already

Not to be harsh, new guys. You may have been in the fight for a long time.

Attacks on the 2A are not well met here on INGO. If that surprises you you may be on the wrong board.

He does not have the ability to do **** and we know it. He needs to be outed as an anti 2A POS and marginalized. INGO IS the place for that, and will continue to be, no matter how many Fudds join. They never last.
Seems to be afew more around lately huh? I'm always saddened when I see it and I dont welcome those types of people at all.
Our gun rights are non negotiable
There is no such thing as "common sense gun legislation".
Regulation and restriction by the government on guns and ammo and accessories is called one thing, tyranny and infringement

Realizing this is only tangentially related to the topic at hand:

People on INGO won't fight them because "I get too much mail from the NRA" boo hoo hoo.

That annoys me too. So I called them, introduced myself as a lifetime member and gave them my ID number, and told them to stop. They did. Problem solved.

By contrast, GOA doesn't send me nearly enough mail and I'm a lifetime member there too. I have no clue what those guys are doing most days. Last time I called in, years ago now, they transferred me directly to Erich Pratt. Maybe I need to call them and complain in the opposite direction.

    Anyhow...

There is no n00b-friendly way to say with your shield or on it

Yep. Its probably a little tamer than " You can choose to die on your feet or live on your knees." . And I honestly dont know which camp I would end up in if the rubber met the road. 15 years ago before I had a family, probably the former. Now the answer is not quite so cut and dried.

A writer I really like wrote an article about this. He had some very good points.

Sent to Rep. Susan Brooks. I'm not much of a wordsmith. Just trying to express my opinion in asking for some form of admonishment.

Message Subject: Admonishmont for D -CA Rep. Eric Swalwell
    Message Text:
It is with great concern that I write to you today. the recent comments from the Democratic Representative from CA, Eric Swalwell, has me worried greatly. I understand that discussions focusing on firearms are contentious. It is my opinion that words have meanings. When an elected official speaks, most people listen. Great care should be given as to what is said in the public forum. This is a lost art in my opinion. My main concern is that an agent of the government has said that use of a military weapon upon U.S. citizens is a possible option if they do not " fall in line" with an agenda that is contrary to the 2nd amendment. Please find enclosed a link to a media article. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/nov/16/eric-swalwell-democratic-lawmaker-warns-gun-owners/ Please consider making Representative Swalwell accountable for his comments. So many within my circle are exhausted with the normality of the use of sensational speech from our leaders. I understand that elected officials are also protected by the first amendment. Time and time again so many, on both sides of the aisle, have shown an inability to be our "betters". Please understand, while the topic here is guns, the larger issue for me is the implication that elected officials can somehow influence the use of the military arm of the government to control the populace. As always, continue to uphold your oath of office, attempt each day to do your best to help others, ground yourself with faith and leave things within your control better than they were.

So . . . if the cultural Marxists choose to incite a civil war, what will they actually do if the control they believe they exert over agents of the government doesn't actually work they way they assume? If even a fraction of the military and various Federal LEOs refused to kill a bunch of Americans resisting unlawful orders, what will the socialist-statists do then?
