My round of choice is the 124gr. Federal 9mm +P HST round. I like to test my own rounds and not go by internet tests alone, and I found that out of all the rounds I tried those were the best. (My tests included the Speer Gold Dots too).

I carry the Speer GD's at the moment (because that was what I was able to put my hands on.)

I recently acquired some Federal HSTs, and will use them after my GD's get rotated out.

I've been looking at these Gold Dots. I need to buy some new carry ammo and this is the best price I've found. Haven't ordered from these guys before, but they look legit enough.

HOLLOW POINT Ammo : Ammunition To Go[/quote

I have ordered several times from them. I have never had any problems.

they had 124grn HST'S a few weeks ago i should have bought more than i did.

I don't carry a 9mm, but my defense models at the house ALL have 147gr. GO HEAVEY. I repeat "GO HEAVEY". The 147gr is the only thing that makes the 9mm a threat other than a plinker. Most of my stable has HST's and my EDC has 180 grain HST's ONLY. Ranger's are also very good as well as speer gold dots.

Buying online is usually considerably cheaper. I bought my Gold Dots and Federal HST's (in .40) from Streichers.com Police Equipment and supplies headquarters - 800-367-3763.

+1 - although I search gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com. Anything can be found in a couple week span. Just remember to buy in 500 or 1000 round cases because shipping is a cost to be considered when purchasing. Smaller number count auctions ship for not much less than 1/2 case or full cases.

I would rather not get shot at all. Shot placement is Key, but the post was about opinions on 9mm ammo.

but to say a quality HP in 124gr makes it nothing more than a "plinker" is an asinine statement IMO.

And I believe you meant go "heavy" ;)

Let me rephrase. I do not care for 9mm as EDC or a tactical, but have both for options. I prefer 147gr over 124gr. 124gr will certainly do the job, but as a defense round, I would just prefer the 147gr. I believe the 147gr is superior to the 124gr with expansion and weight retention. My EDC carry .40s&w though

and yes, I meant "go heavy"

I have HST's and love them they are to hydrashoks what ranger talons are to black talons. I alos have ranger talons and I'm currently loaded out with hornady critical defense after some expansion testing with homemade ballistics gel.

I carry 124 grain Corbons. They are as close to .357 Magnum performance as you will get out of a 9mm that I could find. The Federal 125 grain .357's were the king of the "one shot stop" statistics years ago, probably still are in the top five at least.

I also carry the 90 grain Corbons in my P3AT that lives in my back pocket.

I love HST's and have yet to find a better round. If there ever was a "Magic Bullet" - I believe this is it. Penetration, expansion, weight retention is fantastic in many media. Ranger T-Series and Speer LE Golddot JHP is my second pick. I also Love almost ALL Hornady in handgun, rifle, & shotgun and have stashed some away. My question is what convinced you to carry "Critical Defense" rounds?? I may be wrong, but at 115gr - these are the lightest of any SD rounds (except mouse guns which is another thread). What testing results did you find to trust your life to? Just curious, as I dismissed these rounds because no .40s&w and 9mm was way too light for me.

I carry 115 grain Hornady critical defense rounds. I've seen so many hollow points fail to expand in test media. These have yet to fail for me so far.
