The Alaskan taxpayer does not foot the bill for the charges levied, both legal fees or fines. She and her own family's income does.
WOULD YOU DO ANY LESS TO SAVE YOUR OWN FAMILY FROM RUIN, FINANCIAL OR OTHERWISE?
To answer your question of the current governor: IDK. Why don't you find out for us?
She's a simpleton. Lots of flash, little true substance. A lot more intelligent candidates out there that could be an effective President from the GOP.
I laugh at all the sheep that follow her. Seems the right has just as many as the left.
Who is your ideal candidate?

She is still around, and much more free to attack her enemies than she was in office. In office, she would have used huge amounts of the state's money going after those people, and would have been limited legally and ethically by what she as governor could do and say.
There is no such thing as the "perfect" candidate. Yes, Sarah Palin is not perfect. For that matter, neither was Thomas Jefferson, JFK, or Ronald Reagan. That's why the Founding Fathers collectively established our republic.
It's about the people that surround the POTUS, and I believe that Sarah Palin would surround herself with some great people, that understand the constitutional practices of this country, and wouldn't bow to special interest and lobbyists.
Mike Huckabee had the gastric bypass surgery, and to me, that just says he will opt for the easy road and refuse to make tough decisions or put in the hard work. Ron Paul is a financial genius, and that's where he should be placed.
I agree with Pat's post about a third party. The Republican party needs to be cleaned out from within, and breached by true libertarian/constitutionalist/conservative minded folks; as that's the platform of the party. Bill Clinton won both elections with less than 50% of the vote due to a third party candidate.
I'm not saying that she's the bar-none, hands down POTUS candidate, or even the best candidate, however, at this point, I'd say she's definitely leading the pack.
Simple solutions to complex problems is often times the best approach.
