Since I can't buy any AR parts I'm thinkin about a .22lr wheelgun. I'm looking to go cheap, preferably, since I don't want to **** off the wife. What are some brands and prices? I see the rugers are about $400-$500 and they go down to under $200. Are the real cheapies worth it or a headache/accident waiting to happen?

Thanks. Looks like a good deal. Peeked at Cabela's and the only complaint was the finish, which means nothing to me. Any other suggestions before I call it?

Go for the Ruger. Primo firearm. If you are going to keep it a long time, it will be worth the extra and if you decide to sell, you'll get more out of it than the cheapies.

In 4-H shooting sports, they started my son off on a Ruger Single-Six...which I then got a closer look at. It is very, very nice.

    Yup!
I bought a Ruger Super Single Six Convertible for $78.00 in 1972.
    I still have it.
The value has kept ahead of inflation. ;)

If you handle the Rugers you can tell that they are way over built. That makes them last forever. Used ones on gun broker sell for pretty close to new price, so you will never see much depreciation. That would be my pick.

There is only one and that is a Ruger.

My cousin bought a Heritage and it was no comparison to the Ruger. Needless to say he sold it off and took a hit on it.

I am a big fan of 'Old West' guns. Love Lever Actions and SAA. I read about the Cimarron Arms Plinkerton and picked one up for 199. I should have held out and got the one with the .22 Mag cylinder too...but didn't. Regardless, I love the gun in .22 LR. It only holds 6 rounds and I hear it has the same heft and feel as a .45LC version of the same gun. It made shooting .22 LR fun for me again.

Some others sell a similar gun that holds 8 rounds instead of 6...but I wanted the 'heritage'...so I got the 6 shooter version. I suspect that there are multiple choices that sell this same setup besides Cimarron and one was probably mentioned above

For some idiotic reason, I sold the ruger single six that I had in the 70's during my youth. I have a Colt new frontier?
Anyway, at the gun show a couple of weeks ago, a guy offers me a Ruger single six..looks like a 70's model...I bite.
Took it to the farm that afternoon and shot it. Then I shot the Colt. Then I remembered why I sold it!

But I've taken the Ruger out a couple of times by itself and it's a fine gun that I'll keep, but it's just not a colt.

Anyone know where I can get one for $78? :D

The Ruger is probably going to be in the red zone with the wife unless I found a deal that would blow everyone away. Looking around I see the Cimmarons (made by Chiappa?) for pretty cheap. I'm wondering how they'll hold up with cowboy use. I browsed Blythe's and saw the name Puma, any input on those?

The Cimarron is built pretty stout...BUT I've put maybe a 100 rounds through it(its still new). Maybe see if you can find one and handle it and see what you think. I think its built pretty well. I would recommend it. I saw one on Buds Guns for 169 bucks...but I highly recommend the .22 Mag cylinder too so you have a higher powered option.

I'm rather fond of the Ruger Bearcat. I've got one, and each of my daughters has their own as well. They are extremely dependable and seem to be sized perfectly for a .22lr wheelgun. I've got a single six that I like alot, but it seems a bit large for a .22.
BTW, I've got 2 .22 mag. cylinders for the single six, but no lr. cylinder. If anyone's got a similar problem in reverse, has a lr. cylinder they'de like to sell, or needs a .22 mag. cylinder, get in touch.
    Luck,
    Jim
