Nope, Town Council and Marshall have opted to retain him.Yep, this has been making the rounds on FB this past week.
My guess is he will be given an early retirement package minus the party.
Looks like he's a Town Marshall. In Indiana, they are Tier 2 where ACTUAL City police are Tier 1. Tier 2 only require 6 or so weeks of training I would venture little to no, formal field training.. He previously work at Monrovia PD but was suspended 10 days for his conduct at a race track. That department only uses unpaid, part-time officers. So they make their money working gigs like this track.
He then left for some department in Indy (only school police or hospital police would recognize a Tier 2 credential) then off to this latest gig up north. Sorry sack for sure.
Let the law suits begin against the town and cop!
They need to change this to the cop paying in most cases. And taxpayers will fund the cost.
Well, in civil suits, the officer AND the City/Town as well as the Department are all named as separate entities. Three separate pockets, at least initially. Small departments are privately insured and that may be different than the City/Town they operate in. The suits typically allege officer actions violate 4th Amendment stuff, department for training or negligent retention, and City/Town for lack of oversight of department. So while the IDEA of the officer pays everything out of pocket seems to be an easy thing to say on the interwebz, it's totally disconnected with reality. If the officer acted outside of department policy and/or law, then the department won't cover the officer's expense. They need to change this to the cop paying in most cases.
