If it weren't for potheads, we wouldn't have the Taco Bell Doritos Loco tacos. Forget the famous people that have enjoyed some herb, society would be lost without those tasty little pockets of goat meat and diced bugs.

Same argument over and over on this topic. The people that don't use it telling you how terrible and negative the use is, and the users touting about the benefits and challenging the non users to jeopardy and naming achievements of marijuana users. Stop arguing and face the facts. People are going to use marijuana casually just as booze is used in this country. Stop causing undue expense on the taxpayers for encarceration and enforcement and reap the revenue from controlled sales and taxation. Not to mention the huge industrial uses of hemp which are a large scale factor to the legality of it in the first place.

Not everyone. I've never smoked pot, never eaten pot brownies, never used a vaporizer. I understand the medical benefits. I also do understand how letting it (or alcohol/heroin/coke) take over your life can ruin your life.

Exactly. The fact that hemp is illegal simply because it looks like marijuana shows which side of the fence are lazy, ignorant fools. Powdered sugar looks like cocaine, so shouldn't that be illegal as well?

Hemp cannot get you high, but you can make paper, clothes, rope, insulation, concrete, ...uh...green eyed wall decorations, etc., out of it. You can eat the leaves in salads and hemp seeds are really healthy for us too. So why is hemp illegal? I would definitely plant a little crop of hemp if it were legal just to see what all I could do with it.

Did they ban root beer during prohibition?

We see the effect demonstrated in this thread alone.

If you really want to see some fuzzy thinking read the methodology of the study. A sample size of 50 to test IQ over decades, n of 13 to 17? The research also started with different baselines - the cannabis users started 6 pints lower. Add in self reporting... The medical community has already filed this study in the trash.

Hemp competed too much with cotton and paper producers back in the day. Propaganda from producers helped fuel the drive to making it a no-no, not just in this country but that isn't the main reason it is a no-no. Back in the day, they were afraid it was going to take over the #1 spot as a cash crop.

The author of this article doesn't even know what they want to say.

"At age 18, 52 participants indicated they had become dependent on marijuana... Ninety-two others reported dependence starting at a later age.
Researchers compared their IQ scores at age 13 to the score at age 38 and found a drop only in those who had become dependent by 18."

A drop only in those already dependant by 18, they say.

"Dr. Duncan Clark, a researcher at the University of Pittsburgh, said he’s not convinced that mental decline is only in those who become dependent by age 18. He said the main lesson he sees in the overall study results is that to preserve one’s IQ, it’s best to avoid marijuana entirely, no matter what your age."

But their averages (which is the entire study) didn't drop, so what is the basis for this conclusion, Dr. Duncan?

Oh yeah, and my favorite line of the article...

"The researchers had no data on how much was used on each occasion or how potent it was."

Hahaha, nice study. Sounds like it was controlled really well. This is iron clad research!
