pics of the new straight grip i installed. it works great with the houge slip on but the houge has a curve in it that makes it fit a lil bit loose. with the straight grip the gun feels a lot light than before, probably because i can get more of a handle on it

    the old curved grip

and my crossbreed supertuck holster, this thing works wonders in concealing the big ass gun.

yeah, I'd like to see that holster in use as well. It looks very cool. I am not sure I understand the grips...it looks like the Hogue grips just wraps around the old grips, but then you have a photo of them separately. I thought that I have seen some other grips on the 4506 that look slightly the different than the one that I have (straight grips).

the grips that came of are the S&W grips. they make the one with the curve and one with no curve. the houge handall is just a slip on for finger grooves.

i figured out a way to stash an extra mag next to the gun between it and the clip. my belt keeps it from falling down. i will take concealment pics later.

Vic Mackey is the main character of the recently finished tv show "the Shield", about a team of corrupt cops in LA. Vic is played by Michael Chicklis. Vic carries a S&W 4506. It is a very cool show for those who dig cop thrillers.

Don Johnson would be proud. This is the gun that caused almost every police department in America to retire their wheelguns. It also was responsible for my sudden interest in IPSC shooting. I loved the idea that anyone who needs to be shot needs to be shot twice. With a .45. That brings back lots of memories.

    :orly:

AFAIK, the first semi-auto pistol to be widely and notably adopted by LE was the S&W Model 39 (Illinois State Police, 1968), followed by the S&W 59 and other 9mm variants (the FBI's use of the S&W 459 was made famous in the 1986 Miami Shootout), followed shortly thereafter (and on a much wider basis) the Beretta 92 and its ilk. Don Johnson didn't start using the 4506 on Miami Vice until 1988 - by which time the wholesale move toward semi-autos by police departments across the country was already well underway.
