If I have to bug out the situation is very untenable and MY wife's dog would be a liability and not an asset. Very hyper and un-trained lab mix. I'd put a bullet in his head to make sure he doesn't end up in a pack chasing the neighbor's cattle.
Couldn't just leave him that wouldn't be right.

I would take my dog-without hesitation. His senses are much keener than mine. He is part of my family. He would give his life to protect mine. I love my dog. He loves camping too:)

I have a Rot/black and tan mix. Good dog, loves to be around me, gets pissed off if i leave him home. Will walk where ever i go, doesn't run after everything unless im like You can go chase it, and he's off. Then again i live out in the country, and have 1 tv channel, and dial up internet. I also spend a lot of time with my four legged friend getting him to do what i think he should do. He knows when dads mad, he also knows when dad isnt payin any attention about stuff outside and he thinks i should be so he lets me know. This spring/Summer he's going to be my walkin buddy (dogs name is also buddy) and will be trained to follow me and do even more basic commands and really follow the ones he already knows.
So yes the dog would come with me, He can See Smell and hear better then i can. Plus he'd be all sorts of mad if i left him.

The extra rice in my preps is for the dogs. Its a great supplement add a little squirrle or rabbit (or cat :D)
He is well trained, tracks like a bloodhound, chases bullets. I don't think you could have a better early warning system.

Isn't that like meal on wheels? I love my dog but I love my kids more.

Definitely. Here in china it has a euphemism "Fragrant Meat". You often see signs saying "Receiving Dogs". I've eaten so many strange things here. So I think I am prepared to eat just about anything. I'll definitely be the last one to starve.

I love dogs, but kids are more useful...

BTW: Completely unrelated. Donkey tastes like a$$.

My heeler would TOTALLY come with me...she hears/smells stuff far better then I do, barks at strangers (I know, could be a liability in certain situations but an asset in others) and can jump and get a 6'3" man in the face full on.....she can eat scraps if need be but she's going...keeps me company and warm

The dog doesn't hunt, isn't big, and wouldn't be much of a watchdog. However, I would continue to care for him in any situation. That is the commitment I made to him when I brought him into my household.

    Certainly would!

The dog I have right now? Yes! While she's still in training, she promises to be a great asset. She's nearly trained to bark ONLY at humans, is doing well with obedience training and as so many have mentioned, her senses far out range mine. With a good knowledge base, the dog can be trained to do several tasks. As for the quote from Patriots, I've read the book several times and have always disagreed with that section. The dogs were not trained, and should NEVER be allowed to wander the property without human escort. I Love my GSD!!!!! Thanks PWRCRUZ for a great pup! :yesway:

I have a Westie and 2 Husky's and they would definitely go with me. The Westie makes a good hunting dog, he's quiet and "points" at animals. He lets me know when strangers are around and isn't afraid to confront them.
The Husky's are learning to be pack dogs, wearing harnesses and carrying a little weight. I'm looking for the perfect harness and pack, but will probably have to make them. Although they aren't very good at warning me of strangers, the Husky's follow the Westie's lead. When he gets riled up about a stranger, or quietly stalks a coon in the yard, they do the same.
Of the 3 dogs, only the youngest Husky is still gun shy, but we're working on that. They all have spent time with me in the woods and would make great companions if SHTF. We're a pack family, they would never leave us behind and we wouldn't do it to them.

So what we have confirmed with this thread is, if SHTF you would see a ton of people grabbin there guns and pooches:yesway:
I know mine would be coming with. I have heard some people say "it's just a dog" I make a commitment to mine. He depends on me for life (food, health, companionship etc.) He is devoted to me and I to him.
A freind of mine since grade school decided he would pretty much kick my dog for jumping on him one time:xmad: I came the ---- unglued, he learned an important lesson thats forsure:bat:.
Anyway, wherever I was I'd be headed back to the house for supplys and the dog. Kick the car, knock over the dirtbike, tell the girlfreind what you think of her, Just don't ever ---- with my dog.;)

I've had one dog in my entire life that I could trust with my life. He was a St Bernard long hair, and did exactly what I told him to. I never spent time training him, he was just so intelligent that we knew what the other was thinking.

If it was him, or another dog like him, I'd go out of my way to take him.

The dog I have now is a boxer. The only time it spends not jackassing around is when it's sleeping. Hell, I'm tempted most days to put a bullet in it's head, when S "isn't" HingTF. If that day ever comes, I'd have to put it down for my safety.

The dogs come with me even though that might not be much help. The beagle is to fat and old, the husky is to young and playful but pull his own weight on a sled. If I ran out of food for them I'm sure there will be plenty of......:sheep:around.

dog is coming. he's a good hunter, and can provide his own food.

besides, if someone's gonna kill him for food, I'd rather he not be scared and alone when that happens. call me weird, but I'd rather he go by my hand than some stranger.
