You can bank on them using the media to paint these people as extremists and their political philosophies as quackery.

Might want to be a bit more precise - consider that IL as a whole isn't bad, it's Chicago that jacked it up.... California's more reasonable than you would think, once LA and the SF Bay Area are removed. And consider New York without NYC and Albany... They might actually be pleasant states, under those circumstances!
