Definitely a MUCH MUCH smaller parade of vehicles.

By the way Putin tosses around nuclear threats you would think all they needed to do is parade around a nuclear capable ballistic missile with a banner that reads "enough said" and call it a day.

Well the thing is.. this parade was smaller then normal, MUCH smaller then normal

There was only one historic tank. A single T-34. Normally there is a whole dozen or more of them, plus as many SU-100. One year they rolled the entire freaking armor museum out in front of all the current stuff including prototypes that hadn't rolled in decades. (tank nuts were totally going nuts)

Even the current stuff, there was a LOT less of it.. even the prototypes.

Plus there was absolutely NO air parade, there is usually a big big air show/parade after the ground vehicles.. Tupalevs, Sukois, and Migs for MILES...

The Victory Day parade this year was.... not at what people suspected. Very very subdued.

Many were expecting Putin to go all meglomaniac and preach fire death and brimstone to the west. Instead we got a sullen, withdrawn, and defeated looking putin..

I am not sure what that means.. but its unexpected.

    Here is 2020 for reference.

Maybe sanctions and war costs are causing them to run out of money and cut the budget available for parades and it’s tough to appear grandiose when you can’t afford a decent marching band?

I don't care Russian politics one bit, but darn if they don't put on a good parade.

I watched this year, then went back to see some circa 2017 (when the aircraft showed up).

    Lots of these are posted.

To be precise, that paper asks men to show up at the local military commissariat “for verification of military registration data”, with excuses given for work schedules etc. Real mobilization would just say to show up with a bag, that’s it.

From the rumors, even the currently active troops are refusing to go to Ukraine, and escaping conscription went into overdrive.

They probably are trying to see how many will show up even for this “verification of data” — imagine how embarrassing it would be for Puti-Put if he calls for mobilization and nobody shows up.

    .
A parade like that brings out the huge difference between heirs of Bagration and the actual participants, and not in a good way.
