I do not know how widespread this sentiment is, but I am not surprised. Bush sent us into two wars and underfunded the VA. Obama has been fairly popular with groups like the DAV. Romney's hawkish comments could make some of the already stretched troops uneasy.

The VA was underfunded because it wasn't prepared to handle the number of casualties incurred in the Occupation of Iraq. Just like the DoD was underequipped to handle the onset of IEDs that became the mainstay of the bad guys. Ramping up funding for body armor, vehicle armor, and medical support takes time as well as money.

Of course, I come from an "elite" background (aviation units by-and-large didn't have the pleasure of frequent exposure to IEDs) but I can tell you that ODL isn't terribly popular in the aviation community. While everyone military is pretty weary of frequent trips back to Iraq/Afghanistan, the more senior people that I dealt with understood that we had taken on a long-term commitment. That Bush would be blamed for a long-term entanglement in Iraq but ODL not blamed for our increased presence and long-term entanglement in Afghanistan is just ridiculous.

Obama is using the end of the Iraq War to bolster his campaign, and Romney has spoken aggressively about war with Iran. This is shaping up to be a repeat of 2008.

Neocon wars aren't popular outside of the neocon base.

Donald Rumsfeld alone is to blame for the failures in Iraq. He always thought he was the smartest guy in the room. Even when talking military strategy with his Generals. Unfortunately, he was almost always incorrect. If there is such a thing as treason through arrogance, he would be the poster boy.

The VA has been underfunded since its inception.
    Not even a secret.
They even made a movie about it. Called Article 99 or something like that.
Had Lea Thompson and K Sutherland in it if I remember.

I blame both D and R for that.

    Didn't Øbama think ...

... that Disabled Vets should be proud to pay our own medical costs in the V.A., since we "volunteered" anyway, and this makes us super-patriotic!

So we're going to lend credence to an article by the British press agency (Reuters)? Why don't we just read the Washington Post or the New York Times or tune in to CNN or MSNBC? :puke:

I'll guaran-damn-tee you that Romney is going to receive the vote of at least one 34-year veteran.

    Dead heat with McNamara.

At least Rumsfeld didn't set off a mass of forced retirements of senior officers who dared tell Congress the truth about things military rather than following McNamara's lies. I don't remember all the details, but I do recall one admiral, after being asked if engines with more thrust would make the F-111 (McNamara's darling in the quest for one-size-fits-none solutions) suitable as a carrier-based fighter, answered: "There is not enough thrust in all Christendom to make a fighter out of the F-111." It is a shame that this man was promptly put out of his job.

It's funny that there are some who still believe that the Military is above the politics that the rest of government is riddled with. Even down to the lower unit levels.

To my memory, uncles in military and wounded in Korea and the Nam, many friends wounded in the Nam....VA has always been short on everything. Always.
