Ok I have a Kimber 1911 that the slide has a little to much holster wear for me, I am wanting to redo the black on the slide. I enjoy doing everything myself as much as possible, so before I send it in to Kimber or if I can find a good local person around. Do you have know of any kits or advice?
I parkerize my stuff at home. All you need is an electric hot plate and a big stock pot from Harbor Freight. If you can almost boil water, you can park at home. I forgot where I even got the stuff, but it was under $50. I bead blast my stuff first.
I have used the starter kit from Lauers. It's junk. I would recommend buying the color duracoat you want from them and that's it. The airgun that comes with the home kit is the cheapest model you'll ever find. I upgraded to a $20 air brush gun from Harbor Freight and it does extremely well. Use Acetone to degrease, blast, degrease and shoot with air gun.
