Wow, EPD got smacked down on that one! They need to now focus on Carmel's "Interview with the Chief".

    Where's the bacon?
If it's optional, why bother having anyone do it?

They're trying to "save face" (pun intentional) after requiring the picture as well as not renewing anyone until they were 60 days or less from expiration. Indeed they got smacked down, since according to them, they were cleared by ISP to do both of these things in conflict with state law.

For anyone keeping track, that means either
that someone overstepped his/her authority in a BIG way or
    that someone  <GASP>

    lied.

Care to guess which one my money's on?

I fine it interesting when police chiefs think they don't have to comply with state law or they come up with policy's based on their personal opinions.

I read this this morning and it thoroughly p**sed me off. There is absolutely no reason to do this. The police already have access to permit holders' photographs via the DMV. Their offering of excuses such as "it might help in the search if a permit holder is lost" or "it will help officers in the field identify these folks" are ludicrous.

As of 2004 there were 300,000 permit holders in Indiana or roughly 4.73% of the population. That equated to roughly 5,600 permit holders in the Evansville city limits. I guess our police will just sit around flipping through photos in case they happen to see one of us.

Besides, based on numbers collected in Florida and national crime statistice, the criminal rate of permit holders is one half that of the population.

The problem with the poll is it is asking about the permit being a photo ID. This has nothing to do with the fact that the EPD was taking mug shots and sticking them in a file.
