Anyone know the artist? It's not that the artwork is amazing, but the idea is...Well, I don't have enough words to describe it.

The Artist is Lee Teter and the painting is called "Reflections" and as you and others have noted it is a spectacular painting and my personal favorite of all time.

See the checkered flag on the tail of the F4? I am proud to say that was my father's idea. He served his country for 30+ years as a Civil Servant in the Indiana Air Nat'l Guard. (Most of his service was as a Crew Chief or "Tire Kicker" with a couple of stints as a Recruiter)

At the time of this pic, this aircraft was flying out of Tyndall AFB. I'm not quite sure why the checkered flag design was still there though. I would imagine that at one time, it was station at Hulman Field.

The origin of "The Racers" as it was told to me:
While participating in Operation Red Flag, during in the "Cold War" the 181st were among the top readiness Tactical Fighter Groups in the operation. The speed of their reaction time was unmatched. Shortly thereafter, my father was serving as Lead Recruiter of the State and he came up with the term "The Racing Squadron" and used it as a recruitment tool.
