I haven't had my 10/22 long but I am thinking about picking up a low power optic that would make for a bit more precise plinking than the Iron sights. I don't think i want anything over 4x. I would like to spend as little as possible but don't want to wind up with something low quality. Any I ideas?

    22 optics

Optics are like anything else you get what you pay for. Now with that said I have put everything from 39.00 scopes on 22’s up to 350.00 scope and honestly the cheap scopes performed just as well for me and held there zero’s. now the clarity of the optics was better as you spent more money but again with a 22 you are not going to be driving finish nails at 100 yards so why spend the money.
Just another humble opinion so take it for what it’s worth
FYI I was just out looking this morning at Bradis for a scope for my tactical 10/22 and everything I looked at was in the 39-79 dollar range

A lot of people here (including me) have been putting Mueller APV scopes on their 10/22's with good results. They run about $125 which isn't bad.

I use the Simmons 22mag 3x9 with an AO. I order them from a company called SWFA. They run about 60 bucks shipped. I like this scope a lot and most of my 10/22's wear one. They are available in black or silver

i dont like spending money on chinese scopes,i tried meuller and broke it on a 30-06.that was when they first came out.i would say dont test them like i did,and dont drop them.i am sure some of them are good.quality control is my concern.i have more scopes than most people see at gander mtn. in three or four visits.i just think pay a little more and never git rid of the scope.you usually dont get more for your gun if you leave scope on.i am just saying make it a personal purchase and keep it.i can say that, now that i dont need anymore.you can only lose if you buy a bad scope.chinese scope makers change models more often to avoid warranty obligations.i think you need more power than 4 x for a 22 lr. 6x is a reasonable choice for hunting and 50 yard targets.i cant get the groups that i am after w/ a 4x.so for a serious 22 lr,a variable will cover all my needs.

Sometimes cheap scopes are plenty durable for a given application. Sometimes people are willing to sacrifice clarity of the image and light transmission of $$ savings.

One thing that will be questionable with a cheap scope (and cheap iron sights for that matter) is whether or not the adjustments will "answer" or be repeatable. By that I mean, if you dial 5 clicks increase in elevation, will it return to the same point of impact if you dial back 5 clicks downward? Most cheap scopes will not do that as well as something in the midrange and up. This may not be an issue if you don't use elevation and windage adjustments for different ranges.

At the recomendation of other members here I put a Mueller APV on my 10/22 a couple of months back. I don't know how well it would work on a high power but on my 10/22 it has been awesome and I will probably by one for my 77/17.

I have always had good luck with Bushnell scopes. I have a 3-9 on my ruger right now. Have had it 5+ years, durable, repeatable results and ran about $50. I can shoot 3/4" groups at 100 yards all day.

Bullseye in Kokomo has a good deal on Bushnell 3x9. $39.95 includes rings and scope cover. They are very clear...
