Only 24 years left but since the world ends in 57 sorry you won't get to see CA's earthquake.

Yes the current mayan calendar ends on 12-21-2012 but a new mayan calendar (IIRC there were 20 made and we are in #13 right now) begins. To the Mayan's the end of each calendar was a big deal, a celebration of sorts. It has been the modern world that said "oh calendar ends = end of the world".
