I just got back from a trip to South Africa and had a layover in Dubai. When I went to use the restroom in the airport I had to use a stall due to the urinals being out of service. Upon entering the stall I was surprised to discover a hole in the center of a slightly indented area of the floor, a kitchen sink type hose and nozzle, and a roll of TP. With no toilet in sight and depending on your aim and balance, it probably made some sense to de-pants before making a bombing run in that situation.

Many countries in Europe still have these all over the place. It's funny how slightly tipsy women always come back with wet shoes.

My son recently encountered this on his trip. I believe it was in Turkey that he found this situation in the home of someone he stayed with.

I don't doubt you, but I'm surprised that a bathroom in Dubai wasn't ultra modern. That's one of the richest countries on the planet.

The business class lounge was very, very nice and most of the rest of the airport was ultra modern. I suspect they also had toilets in the restroom but with the urinals being down, all the stalls were full and I took the first that became available. The stalls were arranged in two separate banks and I'm pretty sure the other, larger set had toilets instead of just holes in the floor.
