It started off with Obama praising our great Constitution, which I thought was very odd coming from a liberal. He even went so far as to condemn "mob rule", which is what the Democratic party espouses. So I knew it was double speak, and a big "But..." was coming. And it did. I paraphrase, but he said something to this effect:
"The times have changed and so must we adapt... We did not win WW2 with muskets and militias."
I knew it was coming. It was indirect, but not subtle. Liberals claim the best of both worlds, that they can believe in and swear by the Constitution and yet not be bound by it.
EDIT- Actual quote:
"The times have changed and so must we adapt... We did not win WW2 with muskets and militias."

BUT we have always understood that when times change, so must we; that fidelity to our founding principles requires new responses to new challenges; that preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action. For the American people can no more meet the demands of today's world by acting alone than American soldiers could have met the forces of fascism or communism with muskets and militias.
