Lincoln did not free any slaves! The Emancipation Proclamation only applied to former states he had no control over. It did not apply to Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia or certain parishes in Louisiana which were under Union control. Lincoln knew the President did not have the power to abolish slavery. Only a Constitutional Amendment could end slavery.
