Some of you may remember, I was wrongfully denied on a firearms purchase in 2017, after filling out a form 4473.
I appealed it with the Feds, twice, and provided additional info to them once.
Two and a half years later, the Feds finally told me, in multiple letters, that the issue wasn't at their end. They were basing the denial on information that the state of Indiana was providing them. Why the hell it took them that long to tell me that is beyond me.
So, I sent a packet off to the state of Indiana and never heard anything in a five month period.
I spoke with a handful of attorneys in this three year time-frame and every one of them said that I shouldn't have been denied, based off of my record but they all wanted me to just pony up $1500 - $2000 and have them do an expungement.
I refused to pay that amount of money to fix an issue that wasn't my screw-up. I did eventually try that route, myself, and spent $154 in filing fees only to mess up the paperwork.
I finally found an attorney who specializes in gun rights/2nd Ammendment law. He quickly put me in contact with someone in the Indiana State Police records division and within a matter of days, the issue appeared to have been resolved, according to the State Police.
I was apprehensive going to my LGS but they knew my situation from day one.
I just purchased a firearm, through an FFL dealer, Friday,, with no issues.
(I had been sustaining my purchasing needs through private sales, up to this point )
Very frustrating and I know it was just human error of someone checking the wrong box or fat fingering something on a keyboard but it was hard to not let it get you down fighting it for that long.
If you are in the right, never give up. I know there are many who probably do, sadly.
