I can't believe I did it...I bought a 1911 with a rail. Before I get flamed, let me say that this is my only railed 1911 and that it will likely see time with a light/laser on it.
Okay, now to specifics. This is a customized Caspian built by Jess Gypin (Ontarget custom gun works OnTarget - Homepage). The pistol was built on a Caspian Xtreme Recon Frame with the picatinney rail. I purchased this used and contacted Jess to get details. He said that it is among his favorites that he has built and he is digging up the build sheet for it. This is what he stated in an email about it:"It was a full house custom. No expenses spared". Even though it is built on a kit from the Caspians produced for Sig, as you can see a lot differences exist between this and a GSR. This is what I know thus far:
Slide to frame lapped and hand fitted
Storm Lake Match Barrel hand fit
EGW angle bore match bushing (wrench tight)
EGW ignition sear set, disconnector, hammer and leaf spring
EGW stainless oversized .200 slide stop
EGW 25LPI CNC checkering on front strap
STI titanium hammer strut
Wilson match trigger with overtravel screw
4 lb crisp trigger job
Caspian firing pin and stop
Caspian ejector and external extractor
Ed Brown checkered extended tactical mag release
Ed Brown stainless tactical Ambi thumb safety
Wolff 18.5 lb variable recoil spring
Wolff 18 lb main spring
Wolff extra power firing pin spring
Novak wide bar dot low mount tritium front sight
10-8 rear bar dot tritium rear sight opened to .156
MARS GEN II lanyard Loop main spring housing with tactical magwell checkered 30LPI.
Flattened and serrated top of slide 40LPI
600 grit polish on slide flats
Serrated underside of slide stop
Carry Bevel and dehorn
Reliability tuning and polish
Carbide slide treatment on slide and frame surfaces
Rear of slide serrated 40LPI
2 Tripp 7 rd mags with new followers
Gunner Grips
As I understand int, the original owner had it for only a short period of time before it was sold (due to a divorce), the second owner had it for a year and didn't shoot it, now I ended up with it. I would guess round count at 3-400 rounds.
Based on initial impressions, I really like the gun. The trigger is great, fit is tight, finish is nice, and I am looking forward to shooting it. Overall, it feels like a very solid 1911. BTW, the external extractor on this thing seems like a beast compared to the EE on my other 1911s.
