Went to Wally World with the Wife to X-mas shop and get a few Groceries
when I wandered into sporting goods as I often do on these types of trips
was checking out the long guns on the shelf and saw a Remington 597 oin 22 rimfire for 167.00 plus a 20.00 rebate from Remington and its Camo on top of all that
I ask You How could I pass that up so it came Home with Me this afternoon

welcome to the camo 597 club, I purchased the first one out of muncie's wally world for a gift to my father. Great shooting gun. The only thing I'm not impressed with is the extended capacity remington magazines, mine has never quite worked right.

I haven't seen a gun for sale in a wal*mart for years. The last one I saw for sale was in Greenfield, IN like 7 or 8 years ago. The northside wal*marts don't sell anything but ammo. I'm glad they still do sell ammo, they have some of the best pistol caliber ammo deals going. Still a little under $20 for 100 rounds of 9mm Winchester white box? In comparison to even online bulk retailers, that is a good/competitive price.

The Remington 30rd mag i got does work. I tried another 30rd a year ago when they first showed up and jamed every round. My 597 was my first rifle I ever bought. Its a fun little gun. Mine has ate everything I have fed it.

By the way both Rural King and Dunhams have the 30rd mag in stock $20 I think.

Whenever I hit Walmart with my wife, I try and escape for a few minutes to pick up some ammo. I then try and hide it in the cart (since it is already paid for) to avoid my wife asking me why I need MORE ammo. I'd never be able to pull off a whole rifle. That'd be hard to hide.

    Bigum, I understand your paid

I've been amazed by the tactics I've come up with to "shelter" my wife from my ammo and gun buying. She doesn't like guns. I've had them all my life. Something has to give. WalMart on lunchbreaks and a quick stop after work seem to be working for me.

No it is easy actually. After said purchase of rifle, a manager will escort you to the door. You place it in your vehicle stealthily and then return to find your wife. You make the comment "I was going to buy more ammo but I thought I'd take a Pass this time" :D

Great advice! Get my rifle AND look like I'm being considerate at the same time. :yesway:
