Man that thing is dumb. Why not fire an ar from the hip. The bore/sight axis would be about the same.

The only thing missing is a side folding stock. Then it would be more tactical. Maybe a flashlight or three.

Looks cumbersome, awkward to maneuver and use, and probably ludicrously expensive.

As somebody said on the comments on the article, good luck laying prone with this thing.

So, it's the OICW that the US military dropped, basically

I would be more concerned about the 40mm grenade launcher breach about 1.5" from your face!

It's good to break out from the normal conventions from time to time, that's how we got the Henry repeating rifle, the M1 Garand, M16, AUG, etc. You'll notice that a great many established devices have origins in very strange, awkward prototypes.

The mag does look a bit large, quad-stack maybe? That would be cool, especially since it doesn't look as long as the surefires.

Pretty much. The South Koreans built a version as well, and did a very intelligent thing. With the OICW, the semi-auto launcher was very large, expensive, and picky. The ROK made theirs a bullpup bolt-action, and called it good. Like how the US spent millions on researching the space pen, and the Soviets simply issued pencils.
