    Thank you to everyone for all the great info! Looks like I got some gun shows and shooting ranges to get to.

    Above all, be patient. It is tempting to allow the attitude to set in that you are going to go home with something this trip. Just don't let this happen. It may take a while to find that just right piece of hardware, but don't settle for less than the right choice because of allowing yourself to get in a hurry. Think of it this way--when you want a relationship, you don't head for the door with the first guy who shows a modicum of interest with thoughts of long-term commitment on your mind. Same thing with a gun. Take your time and find the right one!

    Which generation of P99 if you don't mind me asking? A lot of people I talk to have a 2nd or third gem, been trying to find a first gen in a 9mm ( current EDC is the 40.)

    Is the gun your looking for carry/self defense or a range plinker. 38 special is a great caliber for both. There are many to chose from like perhaps their Lady Smith. Gun shows are really good for seeing a wide variety guns and prices.
