Ok, I think I have all the hand guns I want except for a 1911. I don't have big bucks to spend, but I don't want to pay 5-6 hundred for a 1911-22LR. I at least want a 9mm. So what is the best 5-6 hundred dollar 9mm 1911 I could go with? I don't want a jammer special. Know what I mean?

There are many better options for 9mm in terms of capacity and weight than a 1911. Frankly, it's a 45 pistol and not as useful in any other caliber.

Rock Island, I have been told, are pretty good for the price ($350-600). If you find yourself close to Plainfield Shooting Supplies, Bob usually has some in there, and usually on the lower end of the price, too.

Save up another 1 or 2 hundred and get a good quality 1911. I'm pretty sure you'll find out for yourself that 1911s reproduce in your sleep. You've never got enough 1911s.
I can NOT recommend the cheaper 1911s. I've owned them and IF you're like me you want to be able to depend on your handguns and know they'll perform like they're supposed to.

Taurus makes a 9mm version as well as a .45 version... both in that price range, although I will echo the above sentiment that if you are only going to have 1 1911, why not get it in .45acp?

    The RIA's and Citadels run 425-500 and yes they are a fine 1911 for the money. And as Manatee said. It's a 1911 is a 45acp. A 1911 that's a 22lr is a 22 that wants to be a 45. Just my :twocents: ;)

I've lost track of how many times I've told this to my wife!! No need to settle for a 9mm 1911 - the .45ACP Taurus PT-1911 fits your $500-$600 target. A good gun for a good price.

Hey, you been talking to my wife? That's what she said for the last 3 I bought. Lol. No, seriously, a 1911 will be my last HAND GUN purchase. Didn't say anything about rifles. :)

I have several handguns and Manatee is correct - If you want a 1911 style handgun buy it in 45 ACP. If you are wanting a 9mm - there are many options to choose from that are actually better firearms for this caliber in my opinion. As far as an inexpensive 1911, I believe the Rock Island is hard to beat for the price. My best friend has one and it is as dependable as my Colt Double Eagle (My Colt is not a true 1911 - but similar).

Save up money, be patient, spend it on a real quality 1911, and you will love it more than any other possession you have. I saved forever for my dan wesson, holy crap, always will be my favorite.
